Inspiration from the pit of the belly

In 2007 I sat down at my desk and with a fire in my belly began the process of developing a character who would encapsulate all of my frustrations with life. The world sucked. Our government has been bloated, reckless and is virtually useless (is there any doubt of that as of this moment as crude decimates the pristine shorelines of our gulf coast?). Crime pays. The weak, the ignorant and uneducated are given a free ride by society on the hard work and labor of others.

Those who are in power, be they elected or selected, are so out of touch with the common man that they live akin to the oppressors in power during the ancient Roman empire.

At times I have wanted to reach into the television screen and just squeeze the throats of lying weasel who 'spin' the news whichever way they sit fit.

What if someone had so much frustration, so much anger, so much venom inside of him that he did just that? And what if he could get away with it?

That's been done before? Well, yes, it has: DEATH WISH. The PUNISHER. V for VENDETTA. All featured a protagonist who goes off the deep end and kills, be it for vengeance or for justice. There are countless other examples such vengeance related carnage and many of them work.

You do not have to reinvent wheel to achieve artistic success. You just need to poke the right nerve for a reaction.

As my pencil exploded into my leather bound notebook with ideas, I tried to work out what would happen in today's 24/7 news cycle were a lone figure wiping out organized criminals. I imagined how Bill O'Reilly or Keith Olbermann would react. Would FOX News cheer the carnage on? Would MSNBC call for us to just get along?

Modern Media and the public's appetite for endless news, fed to us in instant tweets, lead me to believe that a modern day vigilante would be pop culture sensation.

Thus, the concept VENGEANCE found its framework.

  1. Articles that have significant and savvy remarks are more agreeable, at any rate to me. It’s fascinating to peruse what other individuals thought and how it identifies with them or their customers, as their point of view could help you later on.
    Thanks for sharing with us.
